Please understand: if you’re anything other than human first…you’re doing it wrong, whether its black, feminist, religious, artistic, political, or anything else. Be human first and everything else will follow-suit. Like yo seriously, “How you gon’ win, when you ain’t right within?”

[Cow mothers feel an incredibly strong bond with their calves; sadly, in meat and dairy farms, the calves are usually taken from their mothers almost immediately upon being born. In England, a dairy farmer found that one of his dairy cows had escaped; she roamed seven miles away in order to find and suckle her biological calf.]
There has been an unneccessary amount of hatred and/or disapproval directed towards vegans for the last couple of days (not to suggest that it’s not always an issue to begin with). So allow me to clear the air. And also, you know I love bitching about this!
I’m going to cover a few different things in this rant but rest assured, they all revolve around the bigger picture.
WHY SHOULD YOU GO VEGAN? (My TOP favorite)
Vegans live longer than meat eaters, according to study at Loma Linda University. In fact, the findings on vegetarian and vegan longevity are confirmed by the world’s largest population study on diet and health ever done. The comprehensive China Health Project study found that people who eat the least amount of fat and animal products have the lowest risks of cancer, heart attack and other chronic degenerative diseases.
How about a healthier heart? Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States, claiming the lives of approximately 650,000 Americans every year. Unsurprisingly, the typical American diet, which is laden with saturated fat and cholesterol from animal foods like meat and dairy, is largely to blame.
Harmful antibiotics and hormones! The animals on factory farms are frequently sick. This isn’t surprising given that they’re  raised in filthy environments and fed diets inconsistent with their biological needs. These animals are routinely given antibiotics as both a reactive and preventative measure.
Also, animals in conventional factory farms are regularly pumped full of hormones to enlarge their edible parts. While there is much debate in the United States over the true health implications of consuming these hormones (the US has a massive beef industry, and powerful political lobbies have long blocked the exposure of substantiative literature on the subject), the European Union has declared them unsafe. In fact, the EU bans the importation of meat from animals raised in America. European studies show a correlation between hormones in red meat and prostate, breast, and ovarian cancers. These hormones have also been linked to early onset puberty, which later in life increases the risk for all three of these cancers.
There are PLENTY of reasons to go vegan. I’m not saying it’s easy by any means. It takes a lot of determination, understanding and patience but it is worth it.

Animals have emotions and the capacity to suffer.
Cattle are castrated, their horns are ripped out of their heads, and third-degree burns in the form of branding are inflicted on them, all without any pain relief. ‘Dairy’ cows are drugged and bred to produce unnatural amounts of milk; their babies are stolen from them and sent to veal farms so that humans can drink the calves’ milk. ‘Veal’ calves are kept in tiny crates, in darkness and given food deliberately lacking in iron and essential nutrients to give them that ‘pale’ look. Unable to turn around or even lie down, their muscles atrophy, making them ‘tender’ to produce ‘gourmet’ veal.
Battery hens are debeaked and live in cramped cages in their own shit, while millions of male chicks, worthless to the egg industry, are shredded alive in macerators. Pregnant female pigs are kept in ‘farrowing’ crates with not even enough room to turn around or lie down and a large proportion of the 22 billion animals bred for food in the world today are female (got that ‘feminists’?). And this is all before ending up in a slaughterhouse where many animals have their throats slit while still conscious, and are then hauled upside down, bled out, skinned and hacked to pieces. -Katrina Fox

We constantly hear how humans are the most intelligent species but I would have to disagree…
The fundamental reason that humans are even considered as the most intelligent is that humans define intelligence in human terms. It makes us feel superior to other species. Unfortunately our sense of superiority is causing severe problems for other species on earth. That is, we are creating an anthropogenic mass extinction of other species, and this has been happening for thousands of years.

So if you still think we’re so smart, tell me…

Why are we so ignorant when it comes to what we eat?
